Founded in 1973, Helpline has served the communities of Walla Walla County with emergency social services for over thirty years.

Helpline assists indigent and working-poor individuals and families on an emergency basis with food, clothing, prescriptions, transportation, utilities, short-term shelter, homeless prevention rental assistance, infant-care needs and referrals for crisis advocacy and counseling.

In addition to serving as an emergency food bank for needy families, Helpline provides screening and voucher referral for food services at three other area food banks. Helpline coordinates with a wide varieties of social services to ensure needs are met without duplication of services.

Helpline enjoys broad-based community support, including the United Way of Walla Walla County, more than twenty-five area churches, many clubs and organizations, schools, individual and corporate donors, private foundations,
and contracts with government and private agencies.

Helpline employs a full time Executive Director and Assistant Director, and a part-time bookkeeper and administrative assistant. The ongoing work of Helpline is made possible by a dedicated corps of more than thirty volunteers.
